Experimental analysis of centrifugal downhole separators in boosting artificial lift performance

Gas evolution and expansion is a natural phenomenon in most oil gas wells. However, detrimental to pumping artificial lift systems, causing incomplete pump fillage reduced efficiency. This makes it essential separate the before pump's intake. Various downhole separators with questionable efficiencies are available today. In this study, an automated experimental separation facility presented, efficiency of novel centrifugal separator tested. The setup includes 31-ft horizontal section followed by 27-ft vertical that contains separator. performance evaluated at different air (34–215 Mscf/d) water rates (17–867 bpd). multiphase-flow loop equipped pressure transducers control valves for effective flow control. Data acquisition process performed using Labview™. A newly designed packer-type used all tests. It takes average 5 min establish steady-state tubing return line. Liquid measure ratio inlet liquid produced Separation close ideal (100%) up 500 bpd. slightly reduces higher rates, but stays above 80%. decline sharper (over 300 SCF/STB). effects level casing on also pattern intermittent tests, while various patterns visualized recorded.
